Despite her busy performing career, Ms. Khanina remains a dedicated teacher. She has been a Teaching Assistant at SUNY Stony Brook and is currently on the faculty of the Piano School at 92nd Street Y as well as Bloomingdale School of Music.

She has been teaching for more than 20 years in Germany and in the US. Her teaching combines three different schools, Russian, German, and American. Her students won numerous competitions and were invited to play at Weill at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Lincoln Center, and other renown concert halls in New York City.

Every year her students successfully participate at New York State School Music Association, Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations.

“I try to bring joy into learning the piano and to create a great atmosphere, but I would lie if I said there was no discipline involved if someone wants to learn to play piano,” says Anna Khanina as she reflects on her approach to teaching.

Anna believes that every student has his or her own needs and crafts an individual approach to each of her students to address those needs.

“I take the time and make sure to work out the right strategy for everyone in my studio. It is my responsibility to provide students with strong fundamentals. Pianistic technique is not only about velocity, but also about the production of sound.”

Beyond any technique, Anna believes that music-making is the central goal of learning the piano or any musical instrument.

“I try to bring joy into learning the piano and to create a great atmosphere, but I would lie if I said there was no discipline involved if someone wants to learn to play piano.”
